I have been living just outside of Amman in Marj al-Hammam for nearly five months now and running almost every day. I have a number of runs I recommend. To begin with, running around the backroads southwest of Amman is lovely, particularly in the morning around sunrise, although you need to watch yourself for trucks and crazy drivers and always always run into traffic. Additionally, I like running from the 6th Circle into downtown. If you are comming to Jordan from abroad and want to run, make sure to bring your own gear, as the stuff available here is weak at best (cotton T-shirts, sweats, etc.). I would not worry about running in shorts. People might laugh and point (not as much as in Cairo), but it is much much cooler and you should feel comfortable doing it. I have even seen Jordanians exercising in shorts as well, although not many. I do however avoid wearing shorts in public when I am not running.
