Mito is a smaller city (about 300,000) and away from the crowds of Tokyo. Near the downtown area, you can run around Senba Lake in Senba Park. It is a marked 3 kilometers loop with beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring and fall leaves in the fall. There are also many sidewalks and trails throughout the park.
