Ben Guerir is 60 kilometers or 36 miles north of Marrakesh. The rocky plateau that holds Ben Guerir is basically flat and criss crossed with trails and dirt roads: you can run for miles and miles in most any direction. Use the Atlas mountains as guides to stay oriented during the day, and the stars at night. If you want paved road, the Nasa emergency shuttle runway is 3 miles long and has no traffic, but it is inside the Ben Guerir Royal Air Base. If the guard will let you in, it's about 3 lightly trafficked miles to the runway. Watch for wildlife on base, however. Hyenas have been spotted, although they are not supposed to be that far north in Morocco.
