The track starts on the main road of Karfas on the island of Chios. You know you are there when you see the hotels Erytha or Golden Sand. Start running south, with the sea on your left. Do take care, because Greek traffic is rather dangerous and the sidewalks are close to non-existent. It is also advisable to keep to the left of the road to see oncoming traffic. And be careful when turning sharp corners! When leaving Karfas, keep going towards Agia Ermioni. When reaching Agia Ermioni, prepare for some going up and down. Pass through Agia Ermioni and go on to Megalo Limnionas. You will be running on the side of the road, so beware of cars. Coming through Megalo Limnionas you will get to the little harbour which is really nice. Follow the road in the bend to the right (following the paved road). You will then no longer see the sea. Going on, you leave Megalo Limnionas and after some interesting climbing you reach the town of Thymiana. Once you reach Thymiana, I suggest you decide when you want to turn around (we did not go beyond Thymiana) and run the same route back. The entire route we did is about 10 kilometers (7 miles), passing through very nice natural areas and Greek villages with pretty houses. We were there at the end of September and the temperature was still rather high (30 °C / 90 °F), so make sure you take enough water with you, especially when you are not used to running in climbing and descending places: the road back has a pretty stiff climb of about 1 mile.
