As well as thru the Esplanade and along the river - getting into the trails around and beyond Massey University is lovely. Lots of native bush and well maintained. The Kahuterawa Valley roads and Sledge tracks are good for both running and mountain biking. More exciting because they are rougher. Palmy the city itself is a fairly flat run with easy access to the countryside. Hang on to your hat on a windy day though.
