Ocean Beach has a nice trail along the ocean (you can also run on the sand along the beach part of the way). You can take the "L" train out to the end of the line near the San Francisco Zoo, or drive out and park at the parking lot on the Great Highway where Sloat Boulevard dead-ends onto the highway. If you run north towards the Cliff House, you will be running on a dirt path that alternates with concrete promenades and occasional drifting sand. Nice views of the Marin Headlands. If you get to the historic Cliff House restaurant, that is about 2.9 miles one way. You can keep going and run down and then up through the Sutro Baths area and loop back and run back the way you came to your car for a total of about 5.8-6.0 miles, or go even further up where the Great Highway turns into Point Lobos Avenue, make a left Merrie Way (a dirt parking lot above Sutro Baths), follow it to the end and up the dirt path, bear left where the path intersects a broad dirt road - and then you are in the beautiful Land's End Park running towards some spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge. What is great about this route, besides the views, is that you do not have to cross the street anywhere or wait for stop lights. By the way, you will pass the westernmost end of Golden Gate Park - look for the windmills.
