The Charles River is a great place for an after work run, or a location to train for a marathon. Routes can be easily shortened or extended simply by crossing bridges. Runners can be seen from early morning to late at night, even in snow and rain. New Englanders know you have to run in all kinds of weather to train for the "Boston Marathon". The routes can easily go from 1 mile to 17 miles and hills can be added by running up the historic Beacon Hill. There are free bathrooms and water fountains scattered along the route, however, they do close in the winter. There are also gas stations along the way and other places to get water and use restrooms.
