Tornby Klitplantage is a wonderful place to run. Its tranquil woods and soft trails lead the runner through a very unique landscape. Sometimes the runner will be overlooking the rough west coast; sometimes he will need to climb challenging hills. The woods cover a large area and it is recommended to bring a map. Getting lost is not the issue, however, it is easier to plan the distance from the folder found at www.skovognatur.dk/Udgivelser/Vandretursfoldere/atilaa/Tornby.htm. This map with a short description of the history of Tornby Klitplantage (in Danish) can be found in a library or a tourist information in one of the nearby towns. My favourite running track starts at the parking area at the south of the wood (red route) and then work its way north on yellow, green and blue route. When almost reaching the town Hirtshals, you can return south to red route again on new paths and trails inland. It is fairly easy to run a half-marathon in these wonderful surroundings - because this is a place where you can loose sense of time and space. Remember water on long distances - there are no places to buy it anywhere.
