Borivali National Park is a forest area covering over 100 square kilometers. There are some nice nature trails, as well as a road. My favourite running spot here is this 7.5 kilometers road that starts from the park entrance and ends at Kanheri caves (remains of ancient Buddhist caves). Pros: being a forest it is cooler than rest of Bombay and one can breathe clean / fresh air. Occasionally one can spot deer grazing as well as lots of monkeys. It is not a flat trail, giving one a good cross country workout. Cons: little water (a fountain at the beginning of the course, and a shop 7.5 kilometers away at Kanheri caves selling drinking water); stray dogs (don't bother me as am not scared of dogs, but occasionally I had to stop to shoo them off); leopards / panthers (after all this is a forest, so they will be around, although forest officials say they come only after dark, never in the daytime). Park charges recently went up from Rs. 5 to Rs. 20 with no improvement in park facilities.
