Starting from the main harbour, Hanga Piku in the village of Hanga Roa on Easter Island or Rapa Nui, run along the coast - and basically follow the trail out through the Tahai complex, past the lone moai at Ahu Te Peu heading north. The trail is not clearly defined, at times resembling more of a horse trail than footpath, however, this makes the run all the more interesting! But do be careful! Do not be tempted to gaze out to sea, or up to the highest volcano point of Terevaka too much, otherwise you might miss a rock and just end up face down in the basalt! Keep following the coast line until you reach a look out over two small islands - stop here to take in the views, and if you are timing is right, often a spectacular sunset! Return along the dirt, undulating road back towards Hanga Roa, watching out for horses and cows whilst breathing in the clean Pacific ocean air. This run in total is roughly about 5-6 miles, taking anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour all depending upon on much rock hopping and trail twisting you do! Enjoy every step though because it is not often you get a chance to run on a tiny island in the middle of the oceanic desert of the South Pacific!
