For those who enjoy trail running, the best option is "Floresta da Tijuca", the largest forest of world in a city. With some knowledge of the place, it is possible to find from flat trials ("Trilha da Cova da Onça" and the trail from "Bom Retiro" until the beginning of the hill "Bico do Papagaio") to the very hilly ones, like the "Morro da Cocanha" uphill trail. Another spectacular trail, in fact a junction of many trails, is the famous "Trilha Externa Major Archer", mapped at the beginning of this decade by Pedro Menezes, director of the National Park of Floresta da Tijuca at that time. This trail was originally designed to be walked in four days, but on August 7, 2002 it was ran by Carlos Sposito (www.sposito.com.br) and Giovanni Mello in 8:14. It is a worth experience to complete this trail!
