I recently spent a week in Nice, France. While running along the Promenade Anglais is enjoyable, I find it a bit too crowded to be really enjoyable. If you want to have a truly spectacular run, start (at Place Massena) on the Promenade and run east towards the harbor. When you reach the harbor, follow the parking lot around it. Once you reach the restaurants exit left up on of the side streets, then take an immediate right, water will be on your right. Continue running up the long and sometimes steep hill that goes right along the coast. It is tough but the view is great!!! As you reach the crest of the hill after approximately 3 kilometers you will be running through a nice residential area and heading towards Villefranche which is the next village. The view coming down the hill into Villefranche is unbelieveable, a small bay littered with yachts, the village in front of you, and Cap Ferrat just on the opposite side. Even better is that you also see across Cap Ferrat with Monaco in the background... Coming into Villefranche is all downhill, as you get down to the little park downtown where you can turn right to go out to Cap Ferrat you will have run approximately 7 kilometers from the start. If you go out to the edge of Cap Ferrat you will add another 5-6 kilometers to your run depending on what roads you run. One of the best places I can think of for a 20-35 kilometers long run. Plenty of marathoners along these roads!
