Running in China can be a bit of a frustrating experience. In cities and villages there are so many people, carts, vehicles, etc., in the streets that there is no room for runners. The streets can also be sources of major pollution and exercise becomes a major shore. However, there is a solution. If you are staying at a major hotel, such as the Friendship Hotel in Bejing, the hotel courtyard can provide an ideal running route. From the lobby of the hotel, and out in the courtyard, runners can gather and do laps on the outside periphery. One lap is about one mile and repeat laps can provide a meaningful workout. Runners are joined in the courtyard by a more popular exercise of Tai Chi.
