This is a 15 kilometers road/trail run in the Waitakeres. It takes me about 90 minutes. This is a great run with fantastic bush, city and sea views. You need to meet someone with a car at Piha to pick you up. Park at Parnsinson Lookout on Scinc Drive, Waiatarua. That is the gravel area next to the big television mast. Run north along Scenic Drive for about 3 kilometers. The road undulates between 400-350 meters altitude and this is the hilliest part of the run and a good warm up. Take the walking trail on the left called Cutty Grass Trail. Follow this trail for about 3 kilometers to its end. It meets a dirt road called Anawhata Road. Turn right onto Anawhata road and follow it for about 7 kilometers. Near the end you get some great views over Piha beach and the Tasman Sea. You will come to clearly marked trails on the left that take you down the cliff paths to the North end of Piha beach. Run along Piha beach to Lion rock (about 2 kilometers). I like running through the sea to clean my shoes! Reward yourself with a coffee and doughnut at the Piha store.
