A good mixed route (city/off-road) around Costa Teguise is the following: park around Playa Cucharas, and run along the beach, passing Hotel Gran Melia on your left hand. After about 10-15 minutes the path goes inland (on a dirt road). Follow it in North / North East direction to a roundabout. From here run towards Hotel Beatriz. Here the off-road route starts on small tracks going North / North East. The big hill in front of you is called Montana Corona (same name as the famous volcano in the north of Lanzarote). Do not follow the tracks up this mountain but aim to the right on a small path the climbs up to about 80 meters altitude. Just before you get to a small house on your right hand, turn left and run up in the pass between Mt. Corona and Mt. de Saga (further north). If you lose the track just aim for the pass until you find the small path again. The remaining route follows Mt. Corona anti-clockwise until you reach Hotel Beatriz again. Keep on the high tracks (do not lose height or run on the highway - the tracks are more enjoyable). If you run through Costa Teguise to Playa Cucharas you will have covered about 12 kilometers. Total climb: about 120 meters. In the spring you will find lots of flowers in the mountain pass, a seldom sight on Lanzarote unless you get away from the tourist areas. You can use normal running shoes, but be careful on decends if you are not used to off-road running. Map: Lanzarote Tour and Trail, 1:40000 from Discovery Walking Guides Ltd. can be useful when planning the run from the description above.
