One of the most challenging runs in Wellington is Mt. Kau Kau. Located in Khandallah, a suburb about 10 minutes drive from the centre of Wellington. Mt. Kau Kau overlooks Wellington with the most obvious identifier being the communications tower above it. If you enter at Khandallah park there are several tracks up to the top of the mount. A 30/40 minute mountain climb leads to spectacular views. Take your camera if you are game! The descent can be either the way you came up or down towards Simla Crescent. This run is not for the faint of heart and includes either way at least half an hour of pure mountain climb. A mountain runners dream. Spectacular views accompanied by a challenging terrain.
