There is a great little 10K route along the banks of the Ural river. This is the river that divides Europe and Asia. Along the run you can count on being greeted by fishermen and children, babooshkas out for their daily stroll and even an occasional curious cow. Start your run at the local sport center then follow the river to the gates of Victory Park (a Soviet era memorial park) then double back. On the bridge before the park you get a great view of the river as well as the brilliant blue dome of the Atyrau mosque and the shining golden domes of the local Eastern Orthodox church. Most of the path is paved but there is a small section of dirt path to add a little change to the run. It is a fun run and gives any runner the chance to honestly say they have done a transcontinental run. Peace :-)
