Start at the train station on the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) in the center of town. Walk across the street towards the city wall. Behind it you will find an area where local craftsmen show their trade, an interesting area to visit. From there follow the Koenigsstrasse (main drag) and keep walking all the way to the Lorenz Kirche (church). From there go down the steep hill, (cobble stone) crossing the Pegnitz river where you see old traditional Nürnberg Fachwerk-Haeuser (wood inlayed buildings, typical for many German cities. A few feet further and you are at the Hauptmarkt, main market place and the Frauenkirche. Inlaid is the Glocken-Spiel which was removed during World War II to keep it from being destroyed. The famous Schoener Brunnen (fountain) has one gilded ring inserted with no seam to show how or where it was inserted. Every noon hundreds of people appear at the marketplace to see the Glocken-Spiel as it emerges, making its round trip and disappearing back into the church. Then you must stop at the Bratwurst Glocklein on the left side of the market place and at the foot of the Burg-Berg (castle hill). There you will have a chance to taste original Nürnberger sausages with real German Sauerkraut, like you never tasted before. Do not forget beer, a bit stronger that what foreigners are used to, so, take it easy. Now you are strong enough to attempt the steep cobble stone uphill trek to a real castle. Take the tour so you do not miss anything and be sure to get the 360 degree view over the town. After your descent into town you may want to stop at a real Conditorei (fine bakery) and taste excellent pastry or even world famous Lebkuchen for which Nürnberg is famous for and not only at Christmas either.
