Just one more comment about running in Vienna: for all those who appreciate being rewarded by a breathtaking view over the entire city after a mountain run, I would recommend the Vienna forests, which start just inside the city limits and cover most of the area to the west and south-west of Vienna. South of the river Wien (which is really a small brook), the forests are called "Lainzer Tiergarten". Apart from lots of runners, you are likely to come across wild boars, roe and red deer. The area is very mountainous and rather different from the Lobau, Prater, and other green spaces in Vienna. To me, it is at least as beautiful.
