I recommend East Rock Park which has lots of trails either flat along the Mill River or hilly leading to the summit. There are two paved roads leading to the summit, one of which is closed to vehicles. The one closed to vehicles can be accessed by running toward East Rock down Orange Street. At the end of Orange Street, turn right onto English Drive and the paved road to the summit is about a quarter of a mile on your left. For longer runs I enjoy Ridge Road from East Rock Park all the way to Sleeping Giant State Park which is about 6 1/2 miles, one way.
