In Chicago, there's nothing better than running on Lake Shore Drive. You run in between the Drive and Lake Michigan for the most part, but there's a stretch where you can run parallel to the Lincoln Park Zoo. There's always plenty of people out. I've run on it from Hollywood Avenue (north) to the McCormick Place, just south of the Loop.
