Behind Dominica's tiny Capital, Roseau, lies the Botanical Gardens, ideal for running, from which Jack's Track takes you up a steep forested hillslope to a splendid lookout. Running inland from the Botanical Gardens is a road (with little traffic) which follows the Roseau Valley for about 4 miles to Papillote Wilderness Retreat & Nature Sanctuary, from where a forested trail continues approx 1.5 miles to Trafalgar Falls. For the energetic, about half way to Trafalgar, smaller roads ascend the valley sides to Morne Prosper & Wotton Waven on the south side & on the north side, to Laudat (elevation 2,000 ft), gateway to the Trois-Pitons National Park, from where you can hike or "fellrun" to Titou Gorge, Middleham Falls, the summit of Morne Trois-Pitons (4,550 ft), Freshwater Lake, Boerie Lake or (the world's largest) Boiling Lake.
